Deputies Searching for Driver in Fatal Blue Creek Hit and Run Accident

February 1, 2012 – Blue Creek, W.Va. – Police are still looking for the driver of a vehicle that was involved in a fatal hit and run accident on Friday, January 27.

The Charleston Gazette
reports that the incident occurred at about 11:20 p.m. in the 5100 block of Elk River Road, just north of Blue Creek Road. The pedestrian, Dennis Glen James, 47, was crossing the road, near the Blue Creek Post office, when he was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

The vehicle left the scene without stopping.

James was rushed to CAMC GeneralHospital immediately following the accident. He was later pronounced dead.

Police said that the vehicle in question may be a dark-colored passenger car. A witness said that the vehicle’s tail lights may have resembled those of a Dodge Neon. The vehicle should be damaged on the front driver’s side and headlight areas.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
