Death and 2 Injuries in 3-Vehicle Car Crash in Raleigh County

October 11, 2011 - Raleigh County, W.Va. - A multi-vehicle car crash killed a woman and sent 2 others to the hospital on Monday, October 10, with critical injuries.

Reports from WBOY indicate that the accident occurred at about 8:10 p.m. at the intersection of Ritter Drive and Wood Avenue. Raleigh County 911 dispatchers said that 3 vehicles collided in the intersection after a drunk driver, 48-year-old James Edward Lucas Jr., crossed the centerline.

Carole Lynn Warren, 47, suffered fatal injuries and has been confirmed dead by authorities. Joshua Bailey, 33, and Lucas both were injured and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Lucas is now facing charges of DUI, DUI causing death, and DUI causing injury.

Officials with the West Virginia State Police, the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department, the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department and the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene in response to the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
