Crash in Mason County Leaves 2 Dead

June 21, 2011 - Lehart, W.Va. - Two people were killed Monday afternoon in a major car accident in the Lehart area.

WBOY reports that the accident happened at about 3:30 p.m. on Sand Hill Road in Mason County. An unknown number of vehicles were involved in the head-on collision on the roadway for reasons that have not yet been determined.

Metro 911 dispatchers said that 2 people were killed in the accident. The 2 victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released. Whether or not any other people were involved in the accident is unknown.

Sand Hill Road was shut down for some time following the accident while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

Very few details about the crash are available at this time as the accident is under ongoing investigation by authorities in Mason County.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
