Crash in Kanawha County Intersection Kills One and Injures Several More

November 10, 2011 - Kanawha County, W.Va. - A person died and several more had to be taken to the hospital following a crash at an Intersection on Tuesday, November 8.

A report on MetroNews indicates that the accident happened around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Witcher Creek Road and Route 60. It appears that 2 vehicles collided head-on in the intersection. Further details of exactly how the accident occurred are not yet available.

A person was reported to sustain fatal injuries in the accident. He or she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several more people had to be taken to a local hospital immediately following the accident. According to Metro 911 dispatchers, the victims' injuries are severe.

The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released to the public. U.S. Route 60 was blocked in both directions for a couple hours following the accident. All lanes have since been reopened. The accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
