Baja Motorsports Recalls Pep Boy Dirt Bikes Due to Burn Hazards

March 9, 2011 - Baja Motorsports along with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) is voluntarily recalling approximately 4,300 dirt bikes that were sold only at Pep Boys stores due to risks of fires and resulting burn injuries.

It has been found that the dirt bikes can develop leaks in the fuel tank, which can easily result in fires or burn injuries. As of this recall, there have been 6 reports of fuel leakages, including 1 report of a burn injury to a rider's legs.

The specific models included in the Baja Motorsports dirt bike recall are DR50 and DR70 and include VIN numbers with L98 at the beginning. Both the model number and the recalled dirt bike's VIN can be found on the product data plate. This plate is located on the side of the "goose neck", which is the area where the handle bars join the dirt bike's body.

The recalled dirt bikes were manufactured in China and sold at Pep Boys stores throughout the U.S. between December 2010 and January 2011, and retailed for $550 to $650.

Anyone who owns one of these recalled dirt bikes should immediately cease using the product and contact Baja Motorsports at (888) 863-2252 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET (Monday to Friday) or go to the company's website, www.bajamotorsports.com to schedule a free repair.
