June 30, 2011 - Camp Creek, W.Va. - A car accident on Interstate 77 today injured at least two people and shut down several lanes of traffic for most of the morning.
WBOY reports that the accident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on I-77 near the Camp Creek exit in Mercer County. Two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of the interstate.
Dispatchers said that at least one person was trapped in their vehicle following the crash on I-77. At least two people were injured in the crash. The injured people were transported to local hospitals for treatment. There is no word on their medical condition at this time.
The identities of the injured people have not yet been released.
The southbound lanes of I-77 were blocked to traffic for about five hours following the accident. All lanes have since been reopened.
Officials from Turnpike Control, the Princeton Rescue Squad and the Bluestone Valley Fire Department were on the scene in response to the accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
