At Least 1 Injured in 6-Vehicle Car Accident in Paint Creek

August 26, 2011 - Paint Creek, W.Va. - At least one person was taken to the hospital following a 6-vehicle car accident on Thursday.

From a WBOY news report, the multi-vehicle car accident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. on the West Virginia Turnpike. Six cars crashed on the turnpike, just south of the Paint Creek exit on Interstate 77, near the 72 mile marker. Exactly how the accident occurred is unclear.

At least one person sustained injuries in the accident. The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. There is no word on the condition of his or her injuries.

The identities of the people associated in this accident have not yet been publicized. So far no further injuries have been reported to be related with this accident.

The southbound lanes of interstate 77 near the 72 mile marker were blocked to traffic for some time following the accident. All lanes have since been reopened.

The accident is still under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
