A Upshur County Crash Injures 2

June 8, 2011 - Upshur County, W.Va. - Two people were injured Friday afternoon when a vehicle went over an embankment near French Creek Elementary School.

WDTV reports that the car crash happened at about 4 p.m. Friday on Route 20 in Upshur County. Sheriff's deputies said that a Jeep was travelling on Route 20 when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run off the roadway and over an embankment. The Jeep then crashed into a couple of trees.

The driver of the vehicle, Ryan Cole, 42, and a male passenger in his vehicle were both injured in the car crash. Both men were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon for treatment.

Cole is reported to be in critical condition, but officials expect him to be okay. The male passenger has been treated and released.

Whether or not alcohol was a factor in the crash is unknown.

The cause of the car crash remains to be determined as it is still under investigation by deputies of the Upshur County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
