April 19, 2011 - Braxton County, W.Va. - Seven people were injured Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident that shut down parts of Interstate 79.
WDTV reports that the I-79 accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday on the interstate close to Exit 79 in Burnsville. Police troopers said a Chevrolet Suburban began to swerve off the roadway when the driver over-corrected and caused the vehicle to overturn several times.
There were 7 men in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Two of the men were thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Those two had to be air-lifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Their medical conditions are said to be critical.
The other 5 men were taken to Braxton Memorial Hospital. As of Sunday evening, the extent of their injuries was unknown.
The northbound lane on Interstate 79 was blocked to traffic for over an hour following the I-79 accident.
Fatigue may have been a primary factor in the accident, troopers said.
