6 Injured After Car Hits Pole and 2 Pedestrians in Beckley

August 25, 2011 - Beckley, W.Va. - A car accident that involved a car and 2 pedestrians sent 6 people to the hospital on Wednesday, August 24.

According to a WBOY news report, the accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. on Second Street. Reports say the car was travelling on the road when the driver veered off and crashed into a utility pole and then hit 2 pedestrians.

The driver of the car, 4 children in the vehicle, and one of the pedestrians were injured in the accident. Emergency dispatchers said that all 6 people were taken to a local hospital for treatment. There is no word on the severity of their injuries. The second pedestrian declined treatment at the scene.

So far no charges have been filed for this accident. The root of the accident remains to be determined as the Beckley Police Department is still investigating.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
