5-Year-Old Boy Injured in Raleigh County Hit and Run Accident

August 18, 2011 - Raleigh County, W.Va. - A young boy was sent to the hospital Friday, August 12, after he was hit by truck in Raleigh County.

The Charleston Gazette reports that the incident occurred in a residential area in Odd. The boy, 5, was playing in his family's driveway when a black pickup truck swerved off of the roadway and into the driveway, striking the little boy.

The boy suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident. He was transported to Raleigh County General Hospital for treatment.

Officials with the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department said that the driver of the pickup truck left the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet located the driver. The accident is under ongoing investigation. All further investigations are being handled by deputies of the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department.

Anyone who may have witnessed or have information regarding the incident has been asked to contact the sheriff's office at 304-255-9300.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
