4 Injured in Single-Vehicle Wreck in Lost Creek on I-79

May 23, 2011 - Lost Creek, W.Va. - An accident on interstate 79 sent 4 people to the hospital Sunday morning.

WBOY reports that the accident happened at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday on I-79 in Lost Creek. A small sedan was driving northbound on the roadway when its driver evidently lost control of the vehicle.

According to officials, the sedan first crashed into a guardrail, then crossed over to collide with the median during the wreck in Lost Creek.

Four people were injured in the crash on I-79. One of those people was trapped in the vehicle after the crash and had to be freed by emergency response crews.

All 4 people were taken to United Hospital Center for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released. Officials said only that the sedan had Ohio plates.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.

Officials from the Anmoore, Lost Creek and Jane Lew fire departments were also on the scene in response to the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
