3 Trapped When Vehicle Crashed in Bridgeport Creek

June 22, 2011 - Bridgeport, W.Va. - Three people had to be rescued by emergency response crews after a vehicle crashed into a creek in Bridgeport.

WBOY reports that the accident happened Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a Dairy Queen next to Simpson Creek. Due to causes unknown, the car ran off of the parking lot and into the creek.

There were 3 people who were trapped in the car when it crashed. The vehicle floated about 50 feet down the Creek before emergency crews were able to rescue the victims.

The people were extricated from the vehicle by officials with the Bridgeport Fire Department. None of the occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured in the accident; none were reportedly taken to the hospital.

The cause of the accident is under ongoing investigation and being handled by officers of the Bridgeport Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
