3 Injured When Car Crashes into Ditch in Randolph County

August 16, 2011 - Randolph County, W.Va. - Three people were injured in a single-vehicle car accident on Monday, August 15.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 2 p.m. on Coalton Pumpkin Town Road. A vehicle was travelling on the roadway when it suddenly ran off the pavement. The driver of the vehicle overcorrected, sending the vehicle back across the road. It then went off the opposite side of the roadway, crashing into a ditch and hitting a fence.

Three people were injured in the accident. Two of those people were trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out by emergency crews, who were after flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment. The third person was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.

The medical conditions of the injured people have not yet been released. Their identities are also unknown.

Officials from the West Virginia State Police, the Coalton Fire Department and the Junior Fire Department were on the scene in response to the accident. The accident remains under investigation by State Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
