3 Injured When 2 Tractor Trailers Crash in Monongalia County

August 11, 2011 - Monongalia County, W.Va. - Three people were taken to the hospital after a pair of tractor trailers collided on Interstate 68 on Monday, August 8.

WDTV reports that the accident happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 68 close to Interstate 79, in Monongalia County. Police said that they are not entirely sure what happened to cause this accident but it seems that one of the tractor trailers rear-ended the other.

Both of the truck drivers and a passenger in one of the trucks were injured in the accident. All 3 were transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital immediately following the accident. The extent of their injuries is unknown. The victim's identities of the accident have not yet been released.

All lanes, north and southbound, of Interstate 79 were shut down for several hours following the accident. The accident is still under investigation by officials in Monongalia County.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
