3 Injured and Hospitalized Following a Car Accident in Nitro

December 5, 2011 – Nitro, W.Va. – A car accident at an intersection on Friday, December 2, sent 3 people to the hospital for medical attention.

According to an accident report on WSAZ the collision happened at about 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Cross Lanes Drive and 40^th Street, which involved a truck and a Jeep. The reason behind the cause of the accident has not yet been discovered.

Reports indicate that 2 of the truck’s occupants and the driver of the Jeep were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The medical condition of each victim is unknown, but officials on the scene said that they expect all 3 to be OK. The victims’ identities have not yet been revealed.

The intersection was blocked to traffic for a period of time following the accident while emergency response crews worked to clean the scene. The accident is under investigation by local authorities.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
