3 Injured After Mon County Multi-Vehicle Car Accident

August 22, 2011 - Mon County, W.Va. - Three people had to be sent to the hospital on Sunday, August 21, after a 4-vehicle car accident, which involved a truck hauling a trailer.

WDTV reported that the accident occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 68. Deputies of the Mon County Sheriff's Department said that the accident may have been 2 separate accidents.

Two of the vehicles collided in the westbound lanes. The other 2 vehicles went across the median and ended up in the eastbound lanes of traffic.

Three people were injured in the accident. All 3 had to be transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Parts of Interstate 68 were blocked, for a short time following the accident, causing traffic to be backed up for several miles.

Officials are still waiting on statements from those involved. The reason behind the accident remains to be determined as the accident is under continuous investigation by the Mon County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
