The accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Route 2 at Big Seven Mile Road. Initial investigations have lead officials to believe that one of the 2 vehicles crossed over the center line in the intersection. The cars then collided head on into each other.
Reports indicate that 2 people were injured in the accident. Both people had to be transported to the emergency room immediately following the crash. There has been no word on the extent of their injuries.
The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released.
Route 2 was blocked to traffic for about an hour following the accident while crews worked to clear the scene and investigate.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2010 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 315 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
