WSAZ reports that the accident happened at about 1:45 p.m. on U.S. 60, at the entryway to the St. Albans Mall. A Cadillac was travelling eastbound on U.S. 60 when it crashed into a Ford Mustang in front of the mall.
The Cadillac’s driver, 28-year-old Sara Maynard, of Charleston, and the Mustang’s driver, 29-year-old Brad Watson, of St. Albans, were injured in the crash and had to be transported to Charleston Area Medical Center. Their injuries have been described as serious.
There has been no word on who was at fault in the accident. Reports do not indicate if charges had been filed or not. The accident remains under investigation by local authorities.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
