2 Adults, 4 Children Hospitalized after Accident in Fairmont

July 27, 2011 - Fairmont, W.Va. - Six people, including 4 children, are in the hospital following a single-vehicle car accident in Fairmont.

WDTV reports that the accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday on Locust Avenue near Country Club Road in Fairmont. Officials said that an SUV was travelling northbound on the roadway when it attempted to pass another vehicle.

The driver of the SUV then lost control of the vehicle, causing to run off the left side of the road. The SUV overturned twice before it came to a stop.

Two adults and 4 children were injured in the accident. All 6 people had to be transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment. There is no word on the conditions of the 6 victims. The identities of those involved in the accident have not been released.

Officials said that speed may have been a factor in the accident and continues to be under ongoing investigation by the Marion County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
