15 Month-Old Hospitalized After Car Struck Stroller in Clarksburg

July 29, 2011 - Clarksburg, W.Va. - A 15-month-old baby boy was injured Wednesday when his stroller was struck by a car in Clarksburg.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 7 p.m., at the corner of West Pike Street and Sycamore, in downtown Clarksburg. The stroller was struck by an oncoming vehicle on the roadway. Further details as to how the accident occurred are not yet available.

The baby had to be transported to United Hospital Center immediately following the accident. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. No further injuries have been reported in connection with this accident.

According to Clarksburg police officers, the driver of the vehicle that struck the stroller could be cited. The identity of the driver has not yet been released. The cause of the accident remains to be determined as it is under ongoing investigation and is being handled by the Clarksburg Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
