1 Killed in Single-Car Crash in Elkins, WV

June 7, 2011 - Elkins, W.Va. - A man was killed Saturday in a single-vehicle accident in Randolph County.

WBOY reports that the accident happened around 5:00 p.m. Saturday on Cassidy Road in Randolph County. According to authorities, the vehicle was headed southbound on Cassidy Road when its driver lost control and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to run off the road. The vehicle then went over an embankment and overturned.

The driver of the vehicle, Ronald Finlen, 60, of Mill Creek, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said that Finlen was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

There were no other vehicles involved in the accident and no passengers in Finlen's vehicle. No further injuries were reported.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined as the accident is still under investigation. All further investigations are being handled by deputies of the Randolph County Sheriff's Department.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's, the 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show 356 fatalities were the result of car accidents in West Virginia.
