7 Taken to Hospital Following Logan County Crash

June 24, 2011 - Logan, W.Va. - A woman was killed Monday afternoon when 2 cars collided in Logan County.

WBOY reports that the crash happened at the intersection of U.S. Route 119 and Old Logan Road. Angela Lester, 50, of Logan, was driving her SUV when the vehicle drifted into the path of an oncoming pickup truck creating a head-on collision on the roadway.

Officials said that 7 people were taken to the hospital following the car crash. Lester and the driver of the pickup truck were among them. The identities of the other injured passengers are unknown.

Lester was pronounced dead at the Logan Regional Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck received only minor injuries.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff's Department said that they so far have no reason to believe that alcohol or speed were factors in the fatal car crash. The wreck occurred during a storm, so adverse weather conditions may have been to blame.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by the Logan County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
