1 Killed, 2 Injured in Head-On Car Accident in Lewis County

January 16, 2012 – Lewis County, W.Va. – WBOY reports that a person sustained fatal injuries and 2 more were hospitalized after they were involved in a head-on car accident on Route 33 Thursday, January 12.

Officials on the scene said that Marcella Jamison, 56, was driving westbound in a Pontiac Sunfire when the vehicle went across the center line and into the opposite lanes of traffic. The Pontiac then crashed into an oncoming Dodge Neon.

A passenger in the Neon, Lou Ann Jenkins, 56, was killed in the accident. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jamison and the Neon’s driver, Henry Jenkins, 75, were both injured in the accident. Both were first taken to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital before having to be transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital. There is no word on the extent of their injuries.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined. Deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
