1 Killed, 1 Injured When Car Overturns in Kingwood

July 5, 2011 - Kingwood, W.Va. - A man was killed Friday night when his vehicle overturned in Preston County.

WBOY reports that the accident happened on Old Herring Road between Bull Run Road and Marvin's Mountaintop. A vehicle driven by Andrew Abbatt, 38, was travelling on the roadway when it overturned and crashed.

Abbatt was thrown from the vehicle during the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person in the vehicle, Abbatt's sister, was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital immediately following the accident. She is said to have suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses said that Abbatt's vehicle had been speeding when it wrecked but the cause of the accident remains to be determined. Sheriff's deputies are waiting on toxicology reports to determine whether or not alcohol was a factor in the car accident.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by deputies of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
