1 Injured When Car Hits Tanker Truck in Sissonvillle

June 30, 2011 - Sissonville, W.Va. - At least 1 person was injured Wednesday morning when a car crashed into a tanker truck in Sissonville.

WBOY reports that the crash occurred at about 10 a.m. on Interstate 77 at the 106 mile marker. The car was travelling southbound on the interstate when, due to unknown causes, drove into the back of a tanker truck. Officials said the tanker truck did not leak.

It's been reported that at least 1 person incurred injuries after the crash. That person was taken to a local hospital for treatment. There is no word on the medical condition of the victim.

The identities of those involved in the crash have not yet been released.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 77 had to be shut down for nearly 2 hours following the car crash. Emergency crews have now cleared the scene and all lanes have since been reopened. The accident is under ongoing investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
