1 Injured When Car Crashes Into Utility Pole in Shinnston

June 23, 2011 - Shinnston, W.Va. - A person was sent to the hospital Wednesday morning when a vehicle crashed into a pole.

According to a news story on WBOY, the accident happened at about 1 a.m., on Saltwell Road. According to officials at the scene, a car was travelling on the road when the driver crashed into a nearby utility pole for causes that are unknown at this time.

Only a single vehicle was involved in the car accident and no further injuries have been reported. The driver of the vehicle was injured in the accident and was transported to United Hospital Center for treatment.

The medical condition of the victim is currently unknown. The identity of him or her has also not yet been released.

Saltwell Road had to be closed for about an hour following the accident as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by Shinnston police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
