1 Dead, 4 Injured after Four-Vehicle Crash in Mason County

May 6, 2011 - Mason County, W.Va. - One person was killed and 4 more were injured in four-vehicle crash in Mason County.

WBOY reports that the fatal accident occurred at about 4 p.m. Tuesday on Route 62 in the West Columbia area. Four vehicles collided on the roadway. The cause of the accident is unclear.

Ladonna Lynn Stewart, 43, of West Columbia, was killed in the accident. A firefighter with the Mason Volunteer Fire Department said that she died on the scene.

Four more people were injured in the crash. All 4 were transported to Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant for treatment. It is unknown at this time what the full extent of their injuries will be.

The identities of the injured people are unknown at this time.

Route 62 was shut down for some time following the accident. The roadway has since been reopened.

The fatal accident is under ongoing investigation by the Mason County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
