December 21, 2010 - Fairmont, W.Va. - One person has been sent to the hospital after her car crashed into a building in Fairmont.
WDTV reports that the accident occurred at around 5 p.m. Monday on Locust Avenue in Fairmont. A woman lost control of her vehicle and drove the vehicle into a nearby building. Emergency officials believe the woman suffered a seizure while driving, which caused her to crash.
The woman suffered injuries in the crash. She was transported by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital. The extent of the woman's injuries is unknown at this time.
The name or age of the injured woman is yet to be released.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Whether or not there were people in the building at the time of the crash, or if said people could have been injured, is unknown at this time.
The single-vehicle accident is under ongoing investigation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
