Woman Hospitalized after Car Hits Telephone Pole on Route 20 in Upshur County

November 17, 2010 - Hinkleville, W.Va. - A woman was sent to the hospital following a single-vehicle wreck in the community of Hinkleville in Upshur County.

WBOY reports that the car accident occurred at around 7 a.m. Tuesday on Route 20 near McCartney Road in Hinkleville. Authorities stated that Jennifer Small, 24, of French Creek was driving northbound on the roadway when she lost control of her vehicle and collided with a telephone pole. First responders found the vehicle resting against a tree.

Small was trapped in her vehicle after the accident. Emergency crews were forced to use the Jaws of Life to cut her free from the car.

Small was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital immediately following the accident. She was later transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Authorities have said that Small is in serious condition.

Along with officials from the Upshur County Sheriff's Office, emergency crews from the Adrian Volunteer Fire Department and Upshur County Fire and EMS were on the scene in response to the accident.

The Route 20 car accident remains under investigation by the Upshur County Sheriff's Office.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
