Woman Dies in Fatal I-68 Accident Involving Tractor Trailer

April 5, 2011 - Morgantown, W.Va. - One person was killed in an accident involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 68 in Monongalia County.

WBOY reports that the fatal truck accident happened at about 1 p.m. Monday on Interstate 68 in Morgantown. A vehicle was traveling eastbound when it attempted to make a turn in an emergency turnaround. A tractor trailer then collided with the vehicle.

According to officials, the female driver of the smaller vehicle died on the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer was injured in the accident and had to be transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital. The truck driver's medical condition is unknown at this time.

I-68 was closed to traffic in both directions following the accident.

The I-68 accident remains under investigation. All further investigations are being handled by the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department.

Police have not yet released the identities of either victim involved in the fatal accident.

Officials from the Triune-Halleck Volunteer Fire Department, the Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department, and Monongalia EMS were on the scene in response to the accident.
