Woman Dies, 2 Injured After Being Ejected in I-79 Crash

January 11, 2011 - Kanawha County, W. Va.
- One person was killed and two more were injured when a vehicle went over an embankment in Kanawha County.

WBOY
reports that the fatal crash occurred at around 6 a.m. Monday on Interstate 79, between Mink Shoals and Big Chimney in Kanawha County. Vera Mae McMillan, 63, was driving her 2009 Buick Enclave on I-79 when she evidently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an embankment. The vehicle then rolled multiple times.

McMillan was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. She died on the scene.

Sherry Lynn Lottig, 38, and Amanda Lottig, 15-McMillan's daughter and granddaughter, respectively-were also thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Both were transported to Charleston Area Medical Center via ambulance. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined. According to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department, the roads were dry at the time of the accident and icy conditions are not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The fatal accident is under ongoing investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
