Woman and Infant Hospitalized after Rear-End Crash in Clarksburg

February 15, 2011 - Clarksburg, W.Va. - A woman and an infant were sent to the hospital Saturday afternoon after a car accident in Clarksburg.

WDTV reports that the accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Route 50 and Emily Drive. According to police, a pickup truck first yielded to traffic at the intersection and ended up rear-ending the car in front of it as it turned off Route 50 onto Emily Drive.

A woman and an infant were in the car when it was hit from behind. Both were transported to United Hospital Center immediately following the accident. The woman suffered only minor injuries and the infant was taken for medical evaluation as a precautionary measure.

The man who was driving the pickup truck was not injured in the rear-end crash.

The identities of those people involved in the accident have not yet been released.

Traffic was congested on Route 50, Emily Drive, and Lodgeville Road for nearly an hour following the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
