Winter Weather May Have Caused Crash on Route 119 in Taylor County

February 11, 2011 - Taylor County, W. Va. - A single-vehicle accident in Taylor County sent one man to the hospital Wednesday night; wintery weather conditions could be to blame.

A news story from WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Route 119 in Taylor County. The man was driving on the roadway when he evidently lost control of his vehicle, causing it to overturn and land on its top.

The accident victim was trapped in his wrecked vehicle after the crash and had to be cut free when emergency crews arrived on the crash scene. The man was then transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for the treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The extent of his injuries is unknown. The identity of the injured man has not yet been released.

According to deputies of the Taylor County Sheriff's Department, the cause of the accident remains unclear. However, deputies did say that the icy roads and adverse weather conditions could have been factors in the crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
