Weekend Car Accident in Lewis County Leaves 2 Men Injured

July 19, 2010 - Weston, W. Va. - A weekend accident on Interstate 79 in Lewis County hospitalized two Pennsylvania men.

WBOY reports that the accident took place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, close to the 104 mile marker on Interstate 79 south. Ralph Bennett, of Avella, Pa, was driving his minivan when it blew a tire and he lost control of the vehicle.

According to sheriffs and deputies, the minivan then collided with a tractor trailer in the other lane. Upon the collision, the minivan began to spin and caused the passenger, Earl Williams, of Bentleyville, Pa, to be thrown out of the passenger side window.

Both Bennett and Williams were taken to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. Williams was later transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown via ambulance. Weather conditions did not permit helicopter transport.

There is so far no word on either man's medical condition. Further investigations are being handled by the Lewis County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
