Weather-Related Accidents Shut Down I-79; Two Victims Sent to the Hospital

December 3, 2010 - Clarksburg, W.Va. - Several vehicle accidents on Tuesday afternoon sent two people to the hospital and shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 79.

WBOY reports that the crashes occurred at around 1:18 p.m. Tuesday on I-79 close to the 120 Mile Marker. The accidents happened between the Route 50 exit and the Meadowbrook Road Exit.

The accidents involved 2 tractor trailers and 5 passenger vehicles. 911 officials stated that two people had to be transported to United Hospital Center by Harrison County EMS. The medical conditions of these people is unknown at this time.

According to police, wet roads are the most probable cause of the multiple crashes. Further details as to how the accidents occurred are not readily available.

The northbound lanes of I-79 were shut down for some time following the accidents.

The Clarksburg Fire Department, the Bridgeport Fire Department, and the Clarksburg Police Department were on the scene in response to the accidents.
