Weather Blamed For Kanawha County Crash Involving City Recycling Truck

October 22, 2010 - Charleston, W.Va. - One person was sent to the hospital with minor injuries following a motor vehicle accident in Kanawha County.

WSAZ reports that the accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday on Oakwood Road at Canterbury Drive. A blue pickup truck was travelling northbound on the roadway in wet and rainy conditions at the time of the accident.

According to emergency crews, the driver of the truck told police that his vehicle slid across the center line and into the opposite lanes of traffic. His vehicle then collided with a city recycling truck.

One occupant of the city recycling truck was injured in the crash. This person was transported to the hospital. The person is said to have suffered a minor leg injury.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no other injuries.

At this time, the cause of the accident is believed to have been the water on the roadways. The accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
