UPDATE: Police Release Name of Clarksburg Motorcycle Accident Victim

March 21, 2011 - Clarksburg, W.Va. - Police have identified the man injured in a motorcycle accident in Clarksburg that took place early Friday morning.

WBOY and WDTV report that the motorcycle accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Friday close to Arlington Addition in Clarksburg. According to investigators with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, Theodore Scranta, 31, was driving his motorcycle on the roadway when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

Another motorist then contacted 911. The motorist reported that a man was down in the roadway and that the man was not breathing.

Scranta was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital via Healthnet helicopter. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. There were no further injuries.

The cause of the motorcycle crash remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.

Officials from the Summit Park Fire Department and Harrison County EMS were also on the scene in response to the crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
