Update: Man Dies in Hospital Following South Charleston Pedestrian Accident

February 23, 2011 - South Charleston, W.Va. - A man who was sent to the hospital following Saturday's pedestrian accident in South Charleston died Monday from injuries sustained in the accident.

WSAZ reports that State Police were notified Monday that Edward Robinson had been pronounced dead in the hospital.

The accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday on Jefferson Avenue near Kramer Road. Robinson was walking along the roadway when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Robinson was rushed to Thomas Hospital immediately following the accident. Because of the severity of his injuries, he was then transferred to CAMC General Hospital, where he succumbed to fatal injuries two days later.

The identity of the driver of the vehicle that struck Robinson has still not been released. The driver was not cited on the scene, though whether or not charges will now be filed remains unknown.

The fatal pedestrian accident is under ongoing investigation by West Virginia State Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
