February 4, 2011 - Huntington, W.Va. - Two people were sent to the hospital Tuesday night when a vehicle struck the digital St. Mary's Medical Center sign.
WSAZ reports that the accident occurred at about 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 2900 block of 3rd Avenue in Huntington. For reasons unknown, the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and it went off of the roadway. The car then crashed into the digital sign in front of St. Mary's Medical Center.
Two people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Both were injured and had to be transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital. According to police, both victims are believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The identities of the two people involved in the accident have not yet been released.
Only one vehicle was involved in the accident. There were no further injuries.
The cause of the accident remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
