Student and 2 Others Injured in School Bus Crash in Randolph County

September 21, 2010 - Randolph County, W.Va. - A school bus crash on Friday afternoon sent 3 people, including one student, to the hospital.

WDTV reports that the crash occurred at about 4:00 p.m. Friday close to Point Mountain in Valley Head. According to representatives of the Department of Transportation with the Randolph County Board of Education, the bus driver's vision was obscured by direct sunlight.

The bus then went off the roadway, into a ditch and across an embankment. The driver, one student, and an aide were injured in the school bus crash.

The student and the driver were transported to a regional hospital for the treatment of accident injuries. There have been no reports on their injuries or current condition. The aide was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital by medical helicopter as a precaution. The medical condition of the aide is unknown as well.

The school bus accident remains under investigation by State Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
