Single-Vehicle Rollover Crash on I-79 Sends 1 to Hospital

January 4, 2011 - Marion County, W.Va. - One person was injured following a single-vehicle accident in Marion County.

WDTV reports that the accident occurred on Sunday on Interstate 79. According to Deputies of the Marion County Sheriff's Department, a man was driving his vehicle southbound on I-79 when he lost control of his vehicle.

The vehicle then collided with the wire median, flipped over it, and finally came to a rest upright in the northbound lanes of traffic.

The driver of the vehicle received minor injuries in the crash. He was taken to Fairmont General Hospital for treatment. The driver's identity has not yet been released.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no further injuries.

The injured driver told police that he "isn't exactly sure" how the crash occurred. The I-79 rollover accident remains under investigation.

Emergency crews had to shut down the left lane of the busy interstate until the crash was cleaned up and investigated.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
