March 10, 2011 - Monongalia County, W.Va. - One person was hospitalized Wednesday morning following an accident near the Marion County line.
WDTV reports that the accident occurred at about 9 a.m. Wednesday on Route 73 near White Day Creek Road in Monongalia County. According to police, a vehicle was traveling southbound on the roadway when its driver lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle went across the center line, where it collided with a second car. The first vehicle then began to skid, overturned and landed upside-down in a ditch.
Police stated that the female driver of the vehicle had to be cut free when emergency crews arrived on the scene. The driver was then transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment. Her injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.
The identity of the injured driver is unknown at this time.
The cause of the accident remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
