Ridgedale Car Accident Ends With SUV in Ravine, Man Injured

July 26, 2010 - Ridgedale, W. Va. - An SUV accident has left one man injured and his SUV in a ravine in Monongalia County.

WBOY reports that the accident happened just before 3 p.m. Friday on Rafton Road near Ridgedale Road. The driver of the SUV was a man in his early to late 50s. The man was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to State Police, the SUV was headed north on Grafton Road when it struck a guardrail and plunged into a 30-foot ravine. Emergency response officials had to use a pulley and lever system to remove the man from the vehicle.

Witnesses stated that the SUV was seen swerving and changing speeds prior to the accident. The crash is still under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
