Randolph County Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash in Elkins on Old Route 219

July 30, 2010 - Elkins, W. Va. - A Randolph County man was seriously injured early Thursday morning in a motorcycle accident just north of Elkins.

WDTV reports that the motorcycle accident occurred on Old Route 219 at around 8 a.m. Thursday. The man is believed to have suffered serious injuries as a result of the Elkins crash.

Randolph County EMS, Leading Creak VFD and the Randolph County Sheriff's Department all responded to the accident on Old Route 219. HealthNet was put on standby. Because of inclement weather conditions caused by fog, the medical helicopter could not land and the man had to be taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. He was later transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

The Elkins motorcycle accident is currently under investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
