Police Suspect Alcohol Use in Buckhannon Crash With 3 Injured Victims

November 22, 2010 - Buckhannon, W.Va. - A possible drunk driving accident sent 3 people to the hospital Saturday night.

WDTV reports that the accident occurred on Light Chapel Road, just outside of Buckhannon, Saturday evening. The driver of a Ford Taurus missed a turn and drove off into a field. The vehicle then crashed into a large pine tree.

Three occupants of the Ford, the driver and 2 passengers, were injured in the crash. All 3 were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital immediately following the accident. The severity of the victims' injuries is unknown at this time.

The identities of those involved in the accident are yet to be released.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. There were no further injuries.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined. However, deputies have stated that they plan to subpoena the medical records of the victims as alcohol could have been a factor in the crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
