November 2, 2010 - Wayne County, W.Va. - One person has been killed and two more were injured in a car crash in Wayne County Monday afternoon.
WBOY reports that the crash happened at about 4 p.m. on Sunnyside Drive in Wayne County. Dispatchers stated that a woman was driving on the bridge over Sunnyside Creek when she ramped up the embankment. The impact overturned the vehicle.
One man, a passenger in the car, was thrown from the vehicle during the car accident. The man died on the scene.
A second male passenger and the female driver received injuries in the crash and were taken to local hospitals. Both people are said to be in critical condition.
According to officers of the Fort Gay Police Department, speed could have been the primary cause of the crash. Police also stated that the driver had received a citation for speeding the previous day.
The accident remains under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department and the Fort Gay Police Department.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
