Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run near Turtle Creek in Boone County

July 17, 2010 - Boone County - At 1:30 a.m., a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in a hit and run crash. According to Boone County emergency personnel, the pedestrian has now been confirmed dead.

The Charleston Gazette reports that the hit and run pedestrian accident occurred in Boone County, in an area of Route 119 on Turtle Creek near Hatfield and McCoy Mart. As stated by the emergency dispatcher, the pedestrian was in the northbound side of the road, near Mud River Road, when he was hit in the early hours of the morning.

Both the driver responsible and the pedestrian victim had not been identified, as of late Saturday evening. Police have given no word yet in regards to suspects in the hit and run crash. Investigations are being handled by the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
