One Injured When Vehicle Overturns in Charleston on Pennsylvania Avenue

January 18, 2011 - Charleston, W.Va. - One person had to be transported to the hospital after a car crash early Sunday morning.

WBOY reports that the crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday on Pennsylvania Avenue, directly outside of the Charleston Area Medical Center Women and Children's Hospital. According to Kanawha County 911 dispatchers, a Jeep Wrangler overturned on the roadway.

One person was injured in the accident. The injured person was transported to a hospital immediately following the crash. The extent of that person's injuries is unknown at this time.

The identity of the injured person has not yet been released.

No other people were injured in the crash. The Wrangler was the only vehicle involved in the accident and the injured person was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The cause of the single-vehicle accident remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
