One Hospitalized in I-79 Crash Involving Tractor Trailer Truck

December 14, 2010 - Morgantown, W.Va. - An accident on Interstate 79 sent one person to the hospital and shut down the Interstate's southbound lanes.

WDTV reports that the truck accident occurred at around 6 p.m. Thursday on I-79 near the 129 mile marker. A car and an 18-wheeler truck crashed into one another on the roadway.

One of the occupants of the passenger car had to be transported to United Hospital Center immediately following the accident. The extent of this person's injuries is unknown at this time.

The names, ages, and/or genders of those involved in the accident are yet to be released.

The tractor trailer truck was stranded in the middle of the roadway for over half an hour following the accident. The stranded truck caused traffic to be blocked off on I-79 during that time. The accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
